Nova's booth at Telenor's Face Forward event

Nova's booth at Telenor's Face Forward event

This wednesday, Telenor launched their new strategy called "Face Forward". The strategy outlines Telenor's vision and direction for the coming years, focusing on key areas for the next phase of Telenor's development.

During the event, Nova hosted a booth where we showcased our cloud platform. To make things more fun, we created a game for the occasion called "Legacy Terminator 3000", which visitors could try out right there at our stand.

The idea of the game was to build a space ship using blocks. The ship needs engines, shields and weapons to be able to fly through space to destroy legacy systems and protect Telenor from evil corporate bureaucrats. The more legacy systems you destroy, the higher score you get, so we had a leaderboard to display the top scores on a separate computer. This meant syncing scores between the game and the leaderboard in real-time, which was a fun technical challenge.

The game was developed from scratch using vibe coding by our super talented Lead Architect Sindre Lindstad. Vibe coding is a way of rapidly developing software using AI agents to help with coding tasks. Sindre used Claude Sonnet 4.5 to help with generating code snippets, images and integrations. The game itself was built in JavaScript running in the browser with a backend in Python. The game was built in a few days, and was a fun way to showcase Nova.

In total, around 150 games were played during the event, with a lot of engagement and good discussions.

The winner of the game got a special prize consisting of a space ship LEGO set! Congratulations to the winner!

Telenor at Cloud Native Bergen 2025

This October, Telenor had the pleasure of attending Cloud Native Bergen 2025. The conference was held in the beautiful city of Bergen on the Norwegian west coast, offering a perfect backdrop for a gathering focused on the latest innovations in cloud computing. Cloud Native Bergen was a fantastic event that brought together cloud enthusiasts and professionals from Norway and beyond.

The conference was packed with insightful talks and workshops. Some of our favorite sessions included:

Telenor was also proud to speak at the event, sharing insights and experiences from our journey with setting up and operating our cloud platform, Nova, for Telenor Denmark. Our talk delved into the challenges we faced and how we were able to overcome them with only 2 people in the team, highlighting the importance of automation, scalability, and a customer-centric approach in building a successful cloud platform.

The talks will be made available on YouTube soon, so stay tuned for that!

The slides from our talk can be found here: We built a GKE platform - with only 2 engineers and a lot of coffee

Offentlig PaaS meetup at Telenor Norway, Fornebu

Offentlig PaaS meetup at Telenor Norway, Fornebu

This week we in Cloud Platforms (Telenor Norway) hosted the Offentlig PaaS community meetup at Fornebu, within Telenor’s campus. Offentlig PaaS is a network for technologists in public sector in Norway, that focuses on whose who build and operate digital services, with large focus on platforms, application, architecture and security. It was started by NAV and Skatteetaten in 2017, and has grown over the years to become a large and active community, with almost 3000 members, that comes together and share and help each other to solve problems.

The theme of this week’s meetup was self-service, with topics covering both the technical and the non-technical aspects that are essential to understand when working on self-service within the cloud space. At Cloud Platforms, we’ve adopted a platform-as-a-product approach, prioritizing customer feedback and understanding their needs. Our goal is not only to empower users to provision capabilities independently but also to identify which capabilities deliver the most value. This customer-centric mindset remains central to Nova’s ongoing development.

Other than Telenor, we had representatives from NAV, Vy and Kartverket to talk about what they were doing within this space. NAV showed off their NAIS platform, and how they have taken the steps over the last years, to where they are today with a full-fledged front end that their customers can use to self-serve themselves within their platform. Vy talk focused around their perspective into product development and how this have helped them in their self-service journey, and Kartverket showed off how they used self-service within their data platform, and their journey going from a lot of systems with a lot of data spread around, to figuring out who the customer is and how they have made their data available through self-service. Really inspiring talks by everyone, offering a lot of insight and will be a great inspiration for us in Cloud Platforms as we continue to advance with our self-service journey.

The turnout of the meetup was great, with almost 100 attendance that was in place in Fornebu, and around 50 online throughout the day.

Thanks everyone for joining and sharing, and great to chat and meet you all!

Innovation Days at Cloud Platforms

Innovation Days at Cloud Platforms

Most of us have a busy schedule at work and at home, and therefore it isn't always easy to get time to work on a dream project or just learn something new. All of us find ourselves in different life situations, and not everyone has the possibility to spend their spare time to do so.

To help with getting room in the workday to work on something that you are personally passionate about, we created Innovation days. It is two consecutive days where you can work on whatever you find interesting. Yes, two whole days to work with almost anything you feel like!

So what's the goal with this? First of all, our ambition with Innovation days is that you learn something new, and maybe meet people that you do not work with on a regular basis. So therefore it's both social and a learning experience.

Ahead of the innovation days, everyone sends in a short description of the project they want to work on. Then before the innovation days start, we do a presentation meeting, where everyone shares their ideas. Then others can join any of the ideas that are presented, so that on the Innovation days, they can group up and work together. We do not set any requirements regarding the idea; the important part is that you get inspired, learn something new, and maybe connect with someone that you have never talked to before.

After the innovation days are done, every initiative is then presented and demonstrated to everyone on a big screen. If we see that there are some ideas that stick out, we then will give it more time. This we do through the already established teams that we have working in Cloud Platforms.

We have already run several innovation days with great success, so this is something that we see creates great value for everyone involved.

PS! We also serve cake in the demo meetings! 🍰
